Dow drops 0.3% last week, China and U.S. release list of outcomes from leaders' meeting, Trump expects U.S.-Iran talks to resume this week, oil prices rise

  {Economic Information Daily} special report on the 28th: U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday (25th), with AI-related shares performing well and oil prices retreating, improving market risk appetite. Microsoft's stock surged over 3%, becoming one of the main drivers of the market rise. Investors are also watching the follow-up developments after the China-U.S. summit, as both sides released their respective lists of outcomes.

  The Dow Jones closed up 478.64 points, or 0.93%, at 51,828.62 points; the S&P 500 rose 39.28 points, or 0.51%, to 7,743.41 points; the Nasdaq gained 129.34 points, or 0.48%, to 27,068.72 points.

  For the week, the Dow dropped 0.3%, the S&P 500 rose 1.2%, and the Nasdaq advanced 2%.

  Microsoft (US.MSFT) rose 3.7%, mainly driven by news that the company announced new programming tools and round-the-clock AI agent features for Copilot. Meta (US.META) fell 3.3%, although the stock gained about 13% for the week, with market attention continuing on the development of its AI agent product Muse.

  Other large tech stocks: SpaceX (US.SPCX) rose 0.4%, Tesla (US.TSLA) dropped 1.5%, NVIDIA (US.NVDA) gained 0.2%, Apple (US.AAPL) rose 1.5%, and Google (US.GOOG) advanced 0.6%.

  Regarding the Middle East situation, U.S. President Trump said he rejected Iran's recent proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but expects U.S.-Iran talks to resume this week. Brent crude futures were last at $106.11 per barrel, up about 1.76%; NYMEX crude futures were at $93.41, up about 1%.

  The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury rose, last at 5.2%, with high interest rates continuing to exert some pressure on the stock market.

  In the foreign exchange market, the U.S. dollar index retreated on Friday, with the DXY around 100.97, down 0.2%. The yen strengthened against the dollar. USD/JPY briefly reached a high of 158.85, currently at 157.46. EUR/USD traded in a narrow range around 1.137.

  In the commodities market, gold prices held steady but were affected by a stronger dollar and rising expectations of U.S. rate hikes. Spot gold rose about 0.3%, to around $4,289 per ounce; NYMEX gold futures rose about 0.6%, to around $4,327. (yckk)
