The exhibition “With Love from Hong Kong” marks a continuation of Wong’s exploration of pulp television and film. Drawing inspiration from soap operas and largely based on the personal narratives of his grandmother’s life experiences, these new works use exaggerated plots and touches of humour to create a series of videos which, through the set designs, he invites the audience into this retelling of his family’s stories.
At Oi!, Wong extends this cross-generational dialogue into the exhibition space, using scenography to co-create a “soap opera” that explores themes of love, cities and human connections with the community, and transforms Oi! into a vibrant stage for creative experimentation.
