The proportion of the population aged 65 and above in Kwun Tong District of Hong Kong is as high as 26%, far exceeding the Hong Kong average, and the demand for aging at home is even more urgent. In response to the needs of the community, Caritas Ngau Tau Kok Community Centre, together with the office of Kwun Tong District Councillor Lai Wing Chun, the captain of the Amoy Caring Team, Linghao Group, Pricerite and international medical brand Herman, will hold the "Aging Technology and Healthy Living" event at the G/F Atrium of Amoy Plaza Phase 1 from April 16 to 17, 2025. The activity focuses on "Technology empowers the elderly, and the community builds health together", combining innovative technology, health resources and community care to promote the concept of aging at home and promote cross-generational integration.
The event was co-ordinated by Caritas Ngau Tau Kok Community Centre and received strong support from all sectors, demonstrating the effectiveness of cross-sector collaboration. The opening ceremony will be held at 11am on 16 April. Officiating guests include Ms. Li Wanxin, Senior Supervisor of Caritas Ngau Tau Kok Community Centre, Mr. Lai Wing-chun, MH, District Councillor of Kwun Tong, Mr. Yip Hing-kwok, BBS MH JP, Captain of Amoy Care Team, Mr. Cheung Sai-kit, Director of Ling Hau Group, Mr. Pun Lai-yin, Executive Director and Ms. Cheng Yi-yin, General Manager, Mr. Ng Hin-sing, Chief Executive Officer of Priceline Group, Ms. Kwan Yi-ting, Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, as well as representatives from sponsors Hermann, Fresenius Kabi and Cafe de Coral Group. The event focused on three major aspects: reducing the risk of living alone through smart homes, improving quality of life with innovative medical care, and combining community resources to enable the elderly to make independent choices.
The event has a special "Smart Home Elderly Care Demonstration Zone" where Pricerite will showcase elderly-friendly smart furniture design solutions, combined with Lingqiao Group's IoT technology home monitoring system, which uses multiple sensing systems, smart fall prevention devices and other devices to enhance the safety and convenience of elderly living. There will be a variety of interactive sessions during the event, including the "Senior Technology Experience Zone" for the elderly to try out remote health management devices, the "Home Safety Practical Workshop" to guide family members on fall prevention techniques, and free elderly massage services.
Health support is another focus. Fresenius Kabi will explain on site the clinical application of "Belikang Nutritional Powder" for elderly people with dysphagia and provide free nutritional consultation. The "Food for Delight" light cooking team under the Cafe de Coral Group also participated in this community event, demonstrating soft meals made with natural ingredients and opening up tasting experiences to let the public understand how to balance deliciousness and nutritional needs. Hermann, an international medical care brand, will showcase highly absorbent diapers, comfortable diapers and gentle skin care products designed specifically for the elderly to help enhance the convenience and dignity of daily life. Linghao Medical Services, a subsidiary of Linghao Group, has also launched an "Elderly Community Care Service Voucher" consultation station, where professional social workers will explain the application process and service content to help families plan flexible care plans.
Many families misunderstand that technology-enabled elderly care will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Through this event, Caritas showed the public that technology should be an affordable tool to expand choices, rather than a cold luxury. Ms. Lee Wan-sum of Caritas Ngau Tau Kok Community Centre said, “Kwun Tong District is densely populated with old buildings, and the safety of elderly people living alone at home is of particular concern. Technology and community collaboration are the key to elderly care services. We hope to provide a one-stop solution reference for the elderly and their families through activities ranging from home safety (furniture design and IoT devices), health management (nutritional products), to quality of life (soft meals and service vouchers), in line with the concept of ‘whole-person care’, to break the public’s sense of distance from advanced technology, allowing the elderly to enjoy a safe and dignified life independently, and for children to reduce the pressure on their parents to move to nursing homes.” The event is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants and provide in-depth consulting services to 200 families.
