"Lee Ming Wei: The Bloom of Voice" presents music to the audience and shares moments of connection
"Sound of Bloom" is an acclaimed performance installation created by artist Li Mingwei (b. 1964) in 2013. When Li Mingwei was caring for his mother who was recovering from surgery, the two found solace in Schubert's music, and "The Bloom of Sound" was inspired by this experience."Bloom of Sound" selects five pieces of music and a group of Hong Kong classical music singers and turns them into an extraordinary tribute, bringing people a spontaneous moment of trust, intimacy and self-awareness. In this work, singers wearing specially designed robes approach random visitors and offer them a live performance of Schubert's music as a gift. This piece of music creates a brief but unforgettable relationship between singer and listener, sharing moments that change each other's experiences. This installation will be open to the public from August 27 (Tuesday) to September 29 (Sunday), 2024. The performance times during the opening period are from 14:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and from 14:00 to 17:00 on Friday. 14:00 to 18:00. This time, "Bloom of Voice" presented by M+ is presented in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
A.A. Murakami: The Floating World" displays immersive installations that bring an otherworldly experience
"A.A. Murakami: The Floating Realm" will exhibit A.A. Murakami (founded in 2011) created two immersive installations that echo each other. "Ukiyo-e" derives from ukiyo-e, a Japanese art genre popular from the 17th to 19th centuries that often blurs the lines between fantasy and reality to evoke beauty, poetry, and a sense of otherworldliness. A.A. Murakami’s interpretation of this begins with the multi-sensory work Out of Heaven (2024), in which floating iridescent bubbles burst into clouds. The bubbles are a metaphor for the brevity of life, while the clouds carry auspicious and sacred connotations, often seen in Asian art.In "Sun Crossing" (2024), each solid fog ring speeds towards the undulating digital ocean. When the fog rings touch the surface of the screen, they step into the simulated space, break away from the constraints of the physical body, and continue their never-ending journey. This M+ exhibition will expand the concept of "instantaneous technology" pioneered by the two, using innovative technological research to reimagine the beginning of all things and imagine possible future scenarios. This exhibition will be open to the public in the performance space on the B2 floor of the museum from August 31, 2024 (Saturday) to February 2, 2025 (Sunday).
In conjunction with this exhibition, A.A. Murakami will have a conversation with M+ Design and Architecture Chief Curator Ikko Yokoyama and M+ Design and Architecture Curator Zhang Junjie from 14:00 to 15:30 on August 31, 2024 (Saturday) to discuss A behind-the-scenes look at the creation of these fantastic art installations. The artist duo will share their insights into the idea that technology is blurring reality and reality. The opening lecture will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese. For more information about the seminar and registration details, please visit the M+ website.
During the exhibition, M+ will launch meditation workshops on October 19, November 16 and December 21, 2024 (Saturday), inviting viewers to connect with themselves and appreciate art works more deeply through concentration and slow viewing. Event details will be announced on the M+ website later.
